Hi, Mel here,

Creativity has always been a part of who I am. I’ve spent years experimenting with graphic design and creating and owning online businesses. I have always been driven by a desire to learn and create. But with a full-time corporate job and weekends spent competing in western horse shows, there wasn’t much room to fully explore that passion, or perhaps the right opportunity just hadn’t presented itself.

Then I discovered The Rusted Roan Design Co. online and was in awe of the incredible upholstery created. I tried a few pieces myself (let’s just say those early creations won’t be going public anytime soon!) and realised how much I enjoyed the process. When Sierra opened her membership, I jumped straight in and that’s where the inspiration and opportunity for custom image design was born. I began applying my graphic design skills to create images suitable for upholstery, which soon drew interest from others, and I started taking custom orders.

This sparked something inside of me that I just couldn't ignore.

Hence Roamin The West was born.

As I begun to connect with amazing entrepreneurs and small biz owners it has also provided me the opportunity to branch out and pursue another passion of mine, to assist start up and small businesses get online. I love getting into the tech and building marketing platforms to help start up businesses grow effectively.

It wasn't all smooth sailing, there were many late nights learning and adapting as I went, I experimented extensively with my own designs and pieces to ensure each one was the perfect fit in size, color, and design. I started with digital files, and then an impromptu trip to America presented an opportunity to meet with a printer and I was then able to expand to leather and canvas prints.

On the small business side, things came more naturally. I’m tech-savvy and familiar with software systems, and I’d already developed skills to sell online. Completing additional marketing and design courses helped me support other creatives in their business startups and in digitising traditional art for print products.

This dream turned reality enabled me to leave my 9-5 and be my own boss and concentrate on running my business.

Today, my mission is to turn your western creative vision into perfectly sized printed leather, canvas or digital files. And through Done With Grit, I provide the tools, tech know-how, and marketing guidance to help you confidently sell your creations.
